Toys have an extra special meaning at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Springfield. Not only do they bring joy to a child, but they help calm the fears of a child undergoing a medical procedure. Toys are used every day by our Child Life specialists, to make blood draws less frightening, distract children who are getting casts removed, and accompany children into surgery. Child Life specialists facilitate coping and the adjustment of children and families by providing play experiences. Play is “the work of childhood”. It allows children to prepare for medical encounters, act out frustration, and show their level of understanding of the hospital experience.
Because of your generous donation of toys and games, you have helped us to fulfill our vision of transforming the lives of children each day. Friends like you make a child’s stay at the hospital brighter.
